  3. PERSONAL COMPUTER TIME AND DATE CHECK:
  5. This program allows you to change your PC's date and
  6. time during boot.  Should the date and time need to be
  7. reset, answer the "Is Above Information Correct?" ques-
  8. tion by entering N (No).  Otherwise, hit Y or the
  9. <Enter> Key to terminate PC TIMECHK.
  11. 12 AND 24 HOUR CLOCKS:
  13. Two clocks are displayed.  One shows the PC's internal,
  14. or 24 HOUR clock, and the second display indicates the
  15. LOCAL time in AM or PM.  The two clocks will read the
  16. same time in the AM hours, but will dIffer after one
  17. o'clock in the afternoon.  The 24 HOUR clock will con-
  18. tinue to count up to 24 by showing one o'clock as 13:00,
  19. two o'clock as 14:00, etc.  However, the LOCAL clock
  20. will show 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. respectively.
  22. The 24 HOUR clock is used by the PC to mark the time
  23. files are created or revised.  The PC's clock is very
  24. important to the operation of your Personal Computer.
  25. It determines the day-of-the-week, month, day and
  26. year for date stamping files and assuring that your PC
  27. runs corectly.
  29. Each time the PC's 24 HOUR clock reaches 23:59, the
  30. internal calendar is set to the next day.
  32. YOU MAY HAVE SOFTWARE RUNNING ON THIS PC THAT REQUIRES
  33. THE CORRECT TIME AND DATE.  IF THE TIME AND DATE ARE
  34. NOT CORRECT, RESET EACH TO THEIR CORRECT SETTINGS.

  39. SETTING TIME:
  41. Enter the hours using 12 for noon and midnight or 01 to
  42. 11 or a.m. or p.m. hours, followed by a colon (:), 00 to
  43. 59 for minutes, followed by a colon (:) and 00 to 59 for
  44. seconds.  Enter an "a" for a.m., or "p" for p.m.
  46. Any incorrect entry will cause an error.  For example,
  47. any hour number higher than 12, any minute or second
  48. number higher than 59 will cause an error.  In addition,
  49. omission of the colons or a.m. or p.m. designation will
  50. also cause an error.  Clear the error screen with <Esc>.
  52. Hit the <Enter> key to accept the "current" time or your
  53. "new" time.

  55. ENTER CORRECT DATE
  57. Correcting your PC's date is very simple.  Enter the
  58. month number, followed by a dash (-) or slash (/), the 
  59. day of the week, followed by a dash (-) or slash (/) and
  60. then the current year.
  62. For example, the current date is July 21, 1993 is entered
  63. as 07-21-1993, or it can be entered as 07/21/1993.
  65. Should you enter an invalid month, day or a year less
  66. than 1980 or grater than 2099, you will receive an error
  67. message.  Although some PCs may accept dates higher than
  68. the year 2099, PC TIMECHK does not.  PC TIMECHK holds
  69. the year at 2099 due to the fact that some PC's internal
  70. BIOS calendars vary from PC manufacturer to manufacturer.
  72. Currently, using a period (.) to separate month, day and
  73. year is not supported.  Later versions of PC TIMECHK will
  74. support the period.
  76. Hit <Enter> to accept current date, or new date.

  78. IS YOUR ENTRY CORRECT?
  80. You may answer "yes" by hitting either the Y key, <Enter>
  81. key, or click the left mouse button when the mouse
  82. cursor is located on the Y.  If your entry is not cor-
  83. rect, you will see an error message.
  85. To clear your entry and enter a new date or time, you
  86. may hit the N (No) key or place the mouse cursor on then
  87. and click the left mouse button.
  89. No other key is valid for this response.

  91. ENTRY ERROR
  93. One or more of your keyed entries are incorrect!
  95. Entries found to be in error are those which are blink-
  96. ing.  When entering a new time, remember that 01 to 12,
  97. are the only valid hours, and 00 to 59 are the only
  98. valid minutes and seconds.  Each group is separated by
  99. a colon and ended with the a.m. or p.m. indicator.
  101. Dates are entered as numbers, months are 01 to 12, days
  102. no higher than 31 and the year cannot be higher than
  103. 2099.  You may separate each with either a hyphen (-),
  104. or a slash (/).
  106. Clear the error by pressing the <Esc> key.

  108. ADVISORY
  110. Under normal conditions this error may indicate that
  111. your PC's internal battery needs to be replaced or con-
  112. nected.  All AT style personal computers have an on
  113. board battery that maintains many of the PC's setup and
  114. operating features while the power is off.  One of which
  115. is the date and time.
  117. A dead or disconnected battery will allow the date to
  118. returned to its original start date of 01-01-1980.
  120. Look at the displayed TIME.  If it too has changed to
  121. 00:00:01 a.m., or close to it, this is a good indica-
  122. tion that the battery needs attention.  Reset the TIME
  123. and DATE and power off your PC.  If the date again is
  124. 01-01-1980, it's a good indication that the battery
  125. should be replaced.  See your PC Owner's Manual for more
  126. information, or call your dealer.

  128. LAST CALENDAR DATE IN PERSONAL COMPUTER
  130. Your PC's internal clock and calendar has reached mid-
  131. night, December 31, 2099.  This is the end of the cal-
  132. endar that is built into your PC.  Under normal condi-
  133. tions the calendar would change to January 1st of the
  134. next year.  Because the calendar ends here, PC TIMECHK
  135. can go no further and has stopped.
  137. You may click on or press "N" (for Set) and correct or
  138. change the date or time, or you can press <Esc> and
  139. force PC TIMECHK to end.

  141. 1980 TO 2099 CALENDAR
  143. PC TIMECHK's calendar can provide a monthly calendar
  144. for the years 1980 through 2099.  Leap years are shown
  145. automatically when they occure.
  147.    To change to a PRIOR YEAR, press the <PgDn> key.
  149.    To change to the NEXT YEAR, press the <PgUp> key.
  151. NOTE:
  152.  Pressing the <PgDn> key at the year 1980 will change
  153.  the calendar to 2099.  Likewise, pressing the <PgUp>
  154.  key at year 2099 will change the calendar to 1980.
  157.    To change to the PRIOR MONTH, press the <> (Down
  158.     Arrow) akey.
  160.    To change to the NEXT MONTH, press the <> (Up
  161.     Arrow) key.
  163. NOTE:
  164.  Pressing the <> (Down Arrow) key at January will
  165.  change the month to December.  Likewise, pressing the
  166.  <> (Up Arrow) key at December will change the month
  167.  to January.
  169. Pressing <Esc> key will clear the Calendar.

  171. SPECIAL DATES
  173. Depending on the Data file loaded when PC TIMECHK
  174. was started (the data file name is shown at the right
  175. of the last line or press <F3> for a list of available
  176. Data files), pressing the <F5> key will give you a list
  177. of all Special Dates housed in the Data file.
  179. Use the PC TIMECHK utility USERLIST to create, change,
  180. copy or delete any item on this file. You can also create
  181. new data files using USERLIST.
  183. Use the Up and Down Page keys to move through this file.
  185. Use <Esc> key to clear Special Dates.

  187. TIMECHK DATE LIST FILES
  189. TIMECHK is showing you what Special Date or data file are
  190. present on the [d]:\TIMECHK\TCDATA sub directory.
  192. Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys and hit <Enter> to make your
  193. selection, or user your mouse to move up and down the list.
  195. Note:  Even though the PARENT Directory symble (..\) is
  196. shown in the list, you are blocked form accessing the
  197. Parent directory.  Only the [d]:\TIMECHK\TCDATA sub
  198. directory is accessible.

  200. ONE MINUTE TO EXIT
  202. PC TIMECHK has started its countdown routine.  One minute re-
  203. mains before PC TIMECHK will terminate.
  205. You may set the date or time during this period and perform
  206. any function.
  208. At the end of the countdown, PC TIMECHK will terminate and
  209. return control to your PC, or hit or click on <Enter> to
  210. force termination.

  214. The Hot Keys <Alt> + O provides information about this
  215. version of PC TIMECHK and USERLIST Registered Owner's
  216. name, his or her Company Name (optional) and version
  217. number.  Hit any key to clear the Registered Owner Window.
  219. If you continue using PC TIMECHK or USERLIST you are
  220. required to register your copy.  If you have a printer,
  221. you can print the Order Form by entering "PRTORDER.BAT" 
  222. at the DOS prompt.  See the License Information in the
  223. file called "README.CHK" and order information in the 
  224. "ORDER.FRM" file.  Both files are found in your PC's
  225. "[d] \TIMECHK" directory.
